Acclaimed as Greece's "Greatest Living Composer", Mikis Theodorakis' life reads like a film script. A child prodigy, Theodorakis taught himself to write songs without access to musical instruments. He rose to change the face of Greek music, and influences which extend far outside of Greece. All this amongst a backdrop of political turmoil, during which he was tortured and thrown into exile. He rose from the ashes and is now a political statesman, his influence on politics as great as on music.
A documentary three years in the making, traces his life and features interviews with his family and friends. Written and co-produced by Eleni Evangel, councilor of The City of Perth, and a well known member of Perth's Greek community.
Live music and refreshments after the screening!
