Don Camillo
Theatre
Don Camillo is a priest with strong morals living in a small village in post-war Italy. He hears what he believes to be the voice of Christ; a voice that often has greater understanding than Don Camillo has for the troubles of the village and its people. The voice frequently reprimands him for his impatience and temper, a characteristic that often lands Don Camillo in hot water and occasional fistfights.
Don Camillo’s temper is fuelled by the communist Peppone, a candidate for village Mayor, and the two are at constantly at odds with eachother. Despite their conflict, the two are tied by their shared experiences during the war against the Germans as well as their interest in the well-being of their village, and behind the fighting, they do in fact admire eachother.
The play is a satiric comedy with elements of politics, power struggles, religion, love and desire.
It is the second production by the theatre group I Alli, and is directed by Yiannis Dimakakos.
